Garden of Earthly Delights

This is a mural I'm painting in the beer garden at the Record Crate which will be very loosely based on Bosch's altarpiece, with a Glebe setting and lots of rock stars and musicians, dead and alive. Lemmy riding a mullet, oh yeah. Iggy Hanuman Pop!

It will start to get a bit fantastical from here on - this is the first figure -Hank Williams on a big eyed jack, there's a whole lot more to come

The centre of the mural, starting to add some greens

The composition is starting to come through and I've got paint everywhere now, next week I'll get on to to figures

It's all centred on the park next to the St John's church on Glebe Pt Rd, which you can see the beginning of here. I've got a base coat of oil and polyurethane on now. Tomorrow I'll try to finish the late afternoon sky and beef up the midground, maybe add the first figures - Tom Waits leading the dance

Around the art table at Rough Edges

Susan, Georgina and Rez among others..

After Rough Edges I went to Weave Community Hub in Woolloomooloo to meet up with Emmanuel, Siobhan and Freya. I'm going to paint a largish commission for the centre- about 4x2 metre in 3 panels for the feature wall - They've given me a bright studio space to do it and maybe some other work in, so that's exciting - the painting will be the cliffs of Woolloomooloo, and birds, cockatoos and currawongs, ibises , houses and people too.

I'm preparing for an "4 Horsemen", an exhibition 'of oil paintings and rock and roll' opening on the 2nd June at Newsagency Gallery at 332 Stanmore Rd Petersham, with Ben Cahill, Chas Glover and Jimmy Willing. We all started out in the artists squats of the 80s and 90s. If you're in Sydney come along

I'll do some prep work now but get fully on to the Weave painting after that, and post pictures here as I go. Weave will also document everything and work I might do with other artists there

I've also just started work on a mural in the backyard/beer garden of the Record Crate - a kind of Glebe garden of earthly delights with rock stars. It's just a couple of mildly alarming planes of colour at this stage but I should have the bare bones together soon

All this on top of the mural I'm doing at NewtownMission at the moment so I'll be busy. Follow that on the Newtown Last Supper blog

View from the Bells

Another drawing from a couple of weeks ago that I didn't post at the time. This is looking across Cowper Wharf Road from the seats outside the Bells Hotel to the harbour and the Finger Wharf as it got dark

Roughies mural - Floyd

Floyd just lost a couple of toes to gangrene/mismanagement of his condition. He suffered a head injury in a work accident and seems to be falling through the cracks of the system. Eg he's been waiting forever for a place to live.

He calls Rough Edges, the people who go there, his family. I've done a few drawings of him there, so he asked me to paint his portrait in a space on the mural on the front wall. Here it is .
