New Years Eve - Morning busking

King St, Newtown was deserted early, a ghost town bombarded by nearby detonations, distant cheers. The city was a stream of family zombies seeking the best viewing position. So I headed to the Cross, to await the after-midnight crowd.

On King St, Teresa came along and told me her troubles. Assaulted by police and security earlier in the year, now on charges

Darlinghurst Road - The Crest Hotel chemist

These young guys came along and gave me a request for a drawing of zombies and a girl with double-D cups - for $20. But then I was busy with portraits and hadn't got around to it when they came back.

The guy who spoke first says: "OK I'll give you $30 for zombies and double-D cups, $40 if it's any good"

OK boys here's your drawing - I threw in a naked girl with a gas mask. I drew it straight away, but they never returned

And this is a portrait of Ashley, who got distracted while going for some money while I was packing up. It was her birthday, and she's from Newcastle and if she wants her drawing I've got it

Ashley: New Year's birthday girl

This is Ashley from Newcastle. She was in the Cross on New Year's eve - or at least the early hours of New Year's day. She was having her 25th birthday and had lost the friends she went out with. I last saw her heading in search of ATM to pay for this drawing.

I'm holding on to it just in case she ever makes contact. If anyone knows who she is email me at subgeometer at gmail dotcom

Fabels drawn with Hiske's fine liner. Credit is due to the insecurity guard who stopped me finishing this drawing - because I was 'causing an obstruction'. And thanks to the 'obstructed' person who bought me a drink to calm me down

What's the point of a security guard who tries to pick fights with a good-humoured crowd?

Jason and the neighbourhood centre

Jason was at a loose end - describing himself as a lost soul - and introduced himself and sat down with me, and drew in my other pad. After a while he got paranoid about someone he saw in the crowd and shot off.

Jason, thanks for the beer
